Printer Tidbits
I just heard that some virus's, one in particular is the BugBear virus, can
actually infect your printer. This can be even worse on a shared, networked
system. If your printer(s) decides to start printing by itself it's time to put
your virus scanner to work.
I'd like to take a poll to see which printer manufacturer has the best and
worst customer service. Please email your experiences to me and I will give the results in next weeks newsletter. Email Barry at atlas@dvol.com.
If anybody is interested in a photo montage of cleaning an Epson Photo 700 check out this link:

This can also apply to many other Epson printers.
Do you get annoyed when you try to copy a photo from a web site and and find out that your right click button is disabled? Get a program called
Paint Shop Pro. It has a nice screen capture ability. With it you can capture
any part of the screen. You can get a trial copy here:

Canon printers have user replaceable print heads but have you ever tried to find one? They're almost impossible to find and if you can find
one they are usually priced more than what you paid for your printer. Solution? Buy the same used printer from eBay. You can find just about any model printer on eBay cheap. You'll get your print head for
a fraction of the cost of a new one. Then list your old, non working printer on eBay. Lots of people buy them for parts and your print head
just got a little cheaper.
Does your inkjet printer leave tracks on your pages? Little splotches of ink from dirty rollers and guides? Try this. Take a piece of paper and
dab on some alcohol in the shape of a "S" down the entire page. Run it through the printer a few times and it should help clean out some of that dirt.
Most printers allow you to print portions of a web page without printing the entire page. Try this. Open a browser (not confirmed with Netscape)
and go to any web page. Highlight a section of the page. Click file and then print on your browser. Don't use the printer icon or you won't get the dialog box. When the printer dialog box comes up click on the "Selection" option in the "Print Range" box. Then click on "OK". Your print out should
be only the part that you highlighted on the web page. That should save you ink and paper.

Till next time.
