General Tips ================================================== Industry News ================================================== Federal Trade Commission has ruled that competing products, including recycled cartridges can be used without voiding the warranty of your printer. * EPSON * Epson has introduced 2 new Inkjet Printers for the home and office use. The first one is the Epson Stylus C60 for home use. This printer has 2880 x 720 dpi Perfect Picture printing. The C60 also has ultra fast print speeds, up to 12 ppm. This printer takes new cartridges, looks like Epson is trying it again. Not much information on these cartridges, but the numbers for them are T028201 black and T029201 color. Suggested retail is $99. The other printer is the Epson stylus C80 for office use. This printer has 2880 x 720 dpi, and prints black text at up to 20 ppm. This printer takes individual ink takes. So, when one color runs out just replace that color instead of the whole cartridge. This printer also takes new cartridges, T032120 black, T032220 cyan, T032320 magenta, and T032420 yellow. There is also a new C70 which looks very similar to the C80 but just a little slower. Suggested retail is $179. At this time generic cartridges are not available for these printers. It usually takes the generic manufacturers a few months to tool up and ship. Since these new printers use chipped cartridges we expect an additional delay to market. We'll keep you posted. We are researching the inks now for the refill kits. We are told that the chips have new technology so we have to wait for a cure for that as well. :-( * CANON * Canon has introduced 5 new printers, 3 in September and 2 more in October. The 3 printers introduced in September are the S300; $99, S630; $199, S630N; $349. The 2 other printers introduced in October will be the S200; $79, S500; $149. The S500, S630, and S630N will take the BCI-3 ink tanks. The S200 and S300 will take a new printer cartridge the BC-24e. More to come when these become available to the buying public. * LEXMARK * Looking for a new Photo Printer, Lexmark has introduced another one, the Lexmark P122 Photo Jetprinter. This printer has built in memory card readers and a LCD display for PC-free photo printing. The resolution for this printer goes up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. Prints about 3.5 pages per minute. This Printer takes the 12M0120 color cartridge which can be found on our website. We sell remanufactured or OEM. This printer sells for about $149, pretty inexpensive compared to the $300 price tag for some of the Epson Photo Printers. Cartridges for this printer can be found here: http://atlascopy.com/cartridges/lexmark/index.htm ************************************************* Ever wonder what certain words mean, when reading your printer manual. Each week, I will give a couple of new words to better help you when looking for a new printer or for supplies for your printer. PERMANENCE A paper's ability to resist tears, fading, and general aging over time. BLACK The absence of reflected light; the color that is produced when an object absorbs all wavelengths from the light source. When 100% of cyan, magenta and yellow are combined, the resultant color should be black, but in reality produces a muddy gray or brown. Therefore in four-color process printing, black is one of the process inks. The letter "K" is used to represent black in the CMYK acronym to differentiate it from "B" for blue in RGB. BRIGHTNESS The measurement of the reflective quality of a medium. Different brightness levels can cause changes in the appearance of color on the medium requiring adjustments in calibration to achieve optimum result PRISM Triangular-shaped glass or other transparent material through which, when light is passed, its wavelengths refract into a rainbow of colors. A demonstration that light is composed of colors and indication of the arrangement of colors in the visible spectrum. ================================================= Atlascopy.com New Products Colored Inks For Use in Risograph RC/RA/GR & FR Digital Duplicators. Some machines, mostly the Hewlett Packard printers, have a tendency not to clean the print head properly as part of their normal cleaning cycles. Often deposits of ink will set up on the end of the print head causing the cartridge to function sub-optimally. This problem can be fixed by gently cleaning the print head with a soft cotton cloth or Q-tip dipped in alcohol - don't use tissues. Snap the cartridge in and out a couple times to get a good connection after cleaning. Keeping the print head clean greatly increases the number of successful refills. Do Not Run Back to Back Cleaning Cycles. (this applies to all printers) It just makes things worse! Give the cartridge a chance to let some ink flow in between cleaning cycles! After running a cleaning cycle, Print 3 or 4 pages of a color pattern or a color balanced image. If the printing is still not looking good, run another cleaning cycle, then 3 or 4 pages of color pattern. Repeat the process until you have obtained a quality print. This will purge air bubbles or foamy ink that a cleaning cycle may not get. ================================================== That's all for now.
